Back in September, I was contacted by a lady I have met through photography. She is also a photographer and based in West Yorkshire. She asked me if I was free that evening. A young bride to be had called her as their had been some sort of complication with her photographer she had booked to capture her Mehndi party that evening! Laura was unable to cover it, so she wondered if I could instead. Laura knew that I was keen to take on weddings and alternative weddings. I quickly spoke to my husband to make sure he was going to be around to look after our children, he was. So I spoke to Miriam to confirm it was all systems go! I made her fully aware that I had never shot a Mehndi party before, but was keen to do one. She was very understanding and happy to have me on board. So I made sure I had everything I needed and my batteries were charged and ready to go.
That evening, I made my way across to Colne from my home in Langho, the Ribble Valley. It isn't that far and only took 30 minutes or so to get there. The party was held in the Municipal Hall, Colne, Just round the corner from Miriam's family home. Miriam wasn't there when I arrived. She was still getting ready. I was greeted by her parents and her Step Mum. They all made me feel so welcome. It was really lovely. Whilst they put the finishing touches to the room, I took a couple of shots of the amazing looking food and the grand stage.
From there, I went round to the family home to get a couple of shots of Miriam there. I walked back to the Hall with her and her family. There, we were then greeted by about 100 of Miriam's friends and family. Now, the party was in full flow; there was all sorts of food, a chocolate fountain, a lady doing henna on hands and a balloon maker. I took mainly documentary style photographs of Miriam and her guests interacting.
The family were kind enough to provide me with food. It was amazing! In fact, Miriam and her whole family were amazing. They asked if I could cover the wedding which was two days later. I was devastated as I already had commitments and I couldn't!
I provided Miriam with over 200 photographs of her evening. Unfortunately, a lot of guests wouldn't allow me to use images of them on the internet, so I am only able to share a couple of the set of and a couple of beautiful, Miriam.
I can't wait to get involved in another Asian wedding.
