Ribble Valley, Lancashire wedding photographer - couples portraits

Ribble Valley & Lancashire Wedding and Family Photographer.

Well hello!

You might already know that I am a Lancashire based wedding photographer. I live in a lovely little village called Langho. It is nestled in the beautiful Ribble Valley. I cover Cumbria, Yorkshire, Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside and pretty much anywhere in the North West! That being said, I will travel further afield too.

When I meet new clients, I often tell them that my favourite part of shooting a wedding is the couples portraits. Most of them want to know why this is. It’s simple. From the start to the finish of the day, it is pretty full on……

Bridal preparation is a gentle easer into the day. But you aren’t 100% relaxed; more a mixture of nerves and excitement. That being said, I do love being there for bridal preparation as I get to interact and be with you and the bridal party from the word go.

The wedding ceremony is the reason we are all there!

The drinks reception is lovely as it is the first time that the wedding guests have got to give you their best wishes. They are very excited to congratulate you both. But….. you, the newlyweds haven’t even had chance to say hi to each other.

Now, it tends to be time for the couples portraits. Sometimes it is done after the confetti shot or group shots. That is totally on what timetable you have given me. So, I would tend to take you away from everyone else. That way, you can grab a breather. You can obviously take your drink with you, don’t panic! Couples portraits usually take around 20 minutes. I tend to walk around the grounds (park or wherever you have chosen) with you, shooting as we go. It is really relaxed. I do give you hints for posing and know what looks good. I encourage laughter and will often make a fool of myself to relax you and get a giggle. All the while, you are getting to chat and get close to your new wife/husband! Once we are done, I will return you to your guests. Depending on the time of year, I will sometimes nip you out again in the evening for some lovely golden hour (sunset) shots.

Throughout the day, I make sure I take lots of candid images of you and your wedding guests. I also focus of taking plenty of shots of the details there; table settings, centre pieces, flowers, signs etc.

I leave you in peace whilst you eat your wedding breakfast. No one wants their photograph taking whilst eating! I return for the wedding speeches and see you through until just after the cutting of the wedding cake and your first dance.

If you are looking for your wedding photographer and all this sounds good, please send me a message or give me a call.

A Winter Wedding at Cheadle House, Cheshire - Katie & Taib

Ribble Valley & Lancashire Wedding and Family Photographer.

In May 2018, Katie contacted me. She wanted to meet up and discuss her up coming wedding. We met for a coffee in Costa in Haslingden, Lancashire. She told me how she had met her husband to be, Taib whilst on holiday in Agadir. He worked at the hotel she was staying at. The couple hit it off straight away. After that holiday, they were in constant communication and Katie went back for many more holidays. She went out for Taib’s birthday and he proposed to her! Wow! Her family were slightly concerned at first, so they went out to meet him. It seems they fell in love with Taib straight away too and thought the pair were perfect for each other.

I am a Lancashire based wedding photographer. Katie and Taib were getting married in Cheshire. I didn’t mind though as I cover Cheshire, Yorkshire, Cumbria, Manchester etc anyway.

Christmas was now over and it was time to get married! I met Katie, her bridesmaids and her parents at Cheadle House. She had stayed over the previous night. Bridal preparation was well underway. Everyone was so excited. Katie wouldn’t stop talking (I am allowed to say that, she knows she talks a lot).

Taib had now arrived. He was equally excited! He was enjoying a chat with the guests whilst Katie finished getting ready.

The bride and groom became husband and wife after having a civil ceremony at the hotel. True to Katie, the first thing she did was pose for a selfie with her new husband!

It was a bitter cold day. So I made sure I was quick with group shots and couples portraits. Taib was loving that part. He couldn’t stop kissing his new wife. I didn’t even have to prompt him!

I stayed with them through the wedding breakfast, cake cutting and first dance. Do you know what? This family were so lovely. Every single one of them made me feel so welcome. Thank you all so much!

So, you are finally engaged and planning the day you have been dreaming of for what seems like forever. Everyone is recommending wedding suppliers to you and it feels like a minefield. Who should you go with?

If you are reading this blog, chances are, I have been recommended to you, possibly by a friend or family member. Maybe I have come up on a google search or on your Facebook or Instagram feed. I thought I’d write some notes about myself, so that you can get to know me and get a feel of if I am the right wedding photographer for you.

If you have read my ‘about me’ page, you will already know this. But….. I was born in Ulverston, Cumbria where I spent all of my childhood. I was pretty much always outside; out on my bike, going for walks, doing something with animals etc. I was always interested in photography and my bedroom wall was covered in a sea of photos that I had taken of my adventures. This started off as pictures of animals etc and progressed to drunken nights out with my mates!

I moved to Lancashire shortly after I turned 21 and have been here ever since. I have lived in various areas of East Lancashire before settling in Langho, near Clitheroe. I haven’t always been a professional photographer. I wanted to be, but couldn’t take the risk of not having a guaranteed wage coming in. After having our 2 lovely daughters, I decided something had to change. I wanted to do something that fits more around them and spend more quality time with my family. This is when Daisy Chain Photography was born! I started off shooting newborns and families before quickly progressing on to wedding photography. Some of you might not have been interested in that. But I often get asked how I got in to photography during wedding consultations.

_-192.jpg

Talking about wedding consultations, I love getting together with new clients to discuss their wedding plans so far. It’s also a good excuse to get a coffee out. Usually a latte or a hot chocolate in fairness. If it’s a hot chocolate, I have to have cream and marshmallow on top! Anyway, moving on from me and my obsession with coffee and unhealthy treats….. I love to hear about what has been bought so far, the wedding dress (if the groom isn’t there), the flowers, little details etc. I also like to know how the couple got together and how the engagement went. It helps me to get a feel of how the couple work together. I show the couple my wedding portfolio and go through any questions they have. I let them know that having me as their wedding photographer is like having an extra friend there. I am very friendly and will chat to everyone, whilst working, obviously! But I also know when not to get involved and take a step back. I make sure they know that I am not a traditional wedding photographer and WON’T be lining them and their guests up for hours on end for endless group shots. Obviously, I do take the group shots that are requested. But I prefer to get natural images of guests interacting with each other and having a giggle.

On the wedding day, I like to have someone from the wedding party point out important guests to me. I know how important it is to capture an image of the bride with her beloved Grandma.

My husband and I were lucky enough to have Jane for both our engagement shoot and for our wedding day. We absolutely love the photos from both shoots. On both days, Jane made us feel at ease in front of the camera and created some beautiful memories that we will treasure. Many of our guests commented on how nice Jane was on our wedding day too. We would highly recommend Jane.

So, If all this sounds good to you (and looks good to you - portfolio video attached below), please send me an email or give me a call to discuss further.

I look forward to hearing from you and about your adventure so far!

Daisy Chain Photography, Lancashire based wedding photographer - Best of 2018

Wow. Is 2018 really over already? What an incredible year it has been. It has been the first full year of wedding photography and I have loved every minute of it! I have met some amazing couples, worked with incredible suppliers and visited some great venues all over the North West! I shot in venues in Lancashire, Manchester, Cheshire and Yorkshire. I live just outside Clitheroe, Lancashire, so it is quite central to all the places.

I have loved meeting all of my couples. I love to hear about how they got together, their engagement, plans for their wedding and finally, their plans for their future together. It’s a great feeling when a couple put their trust in you to shoot their wedding.

I am not a traditional wedding photographer. I really don’t like staged photographs where everyone is stood round for hours on end. I prefer the more natural approach and tend to capture guests laughing together. That being said, I do love my couples portrait sessions, but that only takes about 20 minutes and is nice for the bride and groom to have a breather!

I have put together a small selection of my favourite images from this year’s weddings. It was pretty hard selecting them as like I said, I have had some fabulous ones.

I have already hit 50% of my target for 2019 weddings and I can’t wait to get started on them. If you are getting married in 2019 or 2020 and still looking for a wedding photographer, get in touch to secure your date.

Our experience of working with Jane as our wedding photographer has been fantastic from the moment I met her. She had been in constant communication leading up to the wedding and on the day she was just perfect. Jane worked so hard to get the perfect pictures of our special day. She was very friendly and it was a pleasure having her as a part of our wedding. Thank you so much for our amazing photographs x

Samantha & Liam's pre wedding shoot - Fletcher Park Botanical Garden, Didsbury, Manchester.

Ribble Valley & Lancashire Wedding and Newborn Photographer.

Samantha & Liam

A couple of months ago, Samantha made contact with me in regards to booking me as hers and Liam's wedding photographer. They are getting married at the Royal Victoria Holiday Inn, Sheffield this coming May. Within their deal, the got a pre wedding shoot / engagement shoot included. Samantha and Liam live in Sheffield and I live in the Ribble Valley, so we decided to meet somewhere in between. We had discussed various locations, but Fletcher Moss Botanical Gardens was one of our favourites, so we went with that option.

Myself and Samantha were in contact a lot on Saturday evening as the snow had decided to come down, again. I'm sure it is meant to be spring now?! Samantha had seen another pre wedding session I did a few weeks ago and really liked the white backdrop, so we thought we'd carry on as planned.

Sunday morning arrived. I woke up to a message off Samantha saying there was loads of snow in Sheffield and she thought she was going to have to rearrange! The was only an inch or so at my house in the Ribble Valley. So I spoke to a friend who was in the Didsbury area, there wasn't much snow there either. So we decided to discuss again at lunch time.

They managed to get their car off their street. Hooray! Now we were on our way. Fantastic!

I got there before Liam and Samantha as they had got stuck in traffic due to an over turned snow plough! I went for a quick coke and a warmup in The Didsbury Pub, before going for a walk round the park to get some ideas.

The happy couple arrived and we were ready to go. It was awesome to finally meet them as all our communication had been done via Facebook messenger and emails. I'd been with them for a couple of minutes and it felt like I had known them forever. We walked and talked the whole way round, stopping to take some relaxed and natural photographs as we did so.

Liam and Samantha made my job so easy. They are so comfortable with each other. They just fell naturally into beautiful poses. I am so excited to be apart of their amazing wedding day. It sounds fantastic. But i have to keep all the details of that to myself, for now.....

I am a Lancashire wedding photographer, but as you can see, I am happy to travel further (if asked nicely).

Here are some of my favourite photographs from the day.

Kate's Curvy Wedding Catwalk At Towneley Hall, Burnley

Ribble Valley & Lancashire Wedding and Newborn Photographer.

Curvy Catwalk

Well hello there!

During my time as a wedding photographer, I have made friends with loads of people within the wedding industry. One of them being Kate from Kate's bridal room. Last month, Kate asked if I would like to help out at her curvy catwalk which was being held at Towneley Hall, Burnley, Lancashire for part of a little white book event. Of course, I was happy to get involved. Like myself, Kate's business is also in the Ribble Valley, Lancashire, so it is easy for us to get together to help each other out. Kate specialises in plus size brides and her dresses range from size 18 up to a size 36.

Anyway, flash forward to last Sunday, the day of the event. I met Kate across at Towneley Hall at 10. She was busy setting up her table for the wedding fair. I had a look around to see where I could take the ladies for some fabulous photographs and also took advantage of having the gorgeous wedding bouquets to myself. The models had now arrived and were ready to get their hair and makeup done. I took a couple of shots of this happening. I got so many steps in that day, running between the models. Jenni who was doing makeup was downstairs and Katrina who was doing hair was upstairs.

The ladies were looking stunning! I took them for a few natural light shots before they got in to their dresses. Wow, They all nailed it!

They were now ready to get their first wedding dresses on.They had some backstage help from Jenny, Jane, Marilyn and my step daughter, Elena. People were starting to come in and get seated, not in the dressing room, obviously.... The ladies were getting nervous as they saw that all seats were taken and people were now stood up too! They had absolutely no need to be, believe me!

James opened up the show by singing bring me sunshine. Then the Queen of curves, Kate gave an opening speech before the totally gorgeous, Lily and Niamh scattered rose petals down the catwalk. They were wearing matching pink tutus. The floor was now ready for the five gorgeous models, Queen Kate, Kate , Kerry, Donna and Joanne. They pretended they were nervous when they each came out in their first dress. Dress number two, those nerves had gone. By dress number three, smiles were more grins! There was a bit of dancing and twirls galore! They were amazing! The audience were also fantastic; clapping along and giving the ladies so much encouragement. It really helped them get in to it.

The show was now over, but I hadn't finished with them yet! A group shot was a must! I then took Kate and Kerry out in to the grounds to get some outdoor shot. Kerry was happy to jump straight in to one of the VW camper vans that was there. We got some lovely shots of them both looking totally gorgeous.

What a fantastic day it was. Thank you to all involved.

It wonderful to work with someone so organised and talented. Jane put everyone at ease during a very tense hectic morning, getting on with everything without once being in the way, capturing the perfect moments.

A totally gorgeous Cheshire wedding - Dave and Jude

Ribble Valley and Lancashire Wedding and Newborn Photographer.

Jude & Dave

At the back end of November 2017 (2017! Is that last year already?!), Hayley from Hayley Blackledge Photography asked me if I could second shoot for her at a totally gorgeous wedding at Swettenham, Congleton, Cheshire. I was keen to get on board. I made a quick phone call to my Mum in Cumbria to see if she was able to come to to watch the kiddies and I was able to confirm the details with Hayley.

The weekend came and I made my was down to Cheshire. Hayley was with the bride, Jude for bridal preperation. So I met the men at The Swettenham Arms. This is where the wedding reception was going to be. But also where the guests met as St. Peter's Church was just across the car park! There, I was able to capture a few of the groom, Dave and his friends. I was also able to get some of their gorgeous son. I am a massive fan of children at weddings. They are amazing to watch.

From there, we made our way across to the church. I think this was the only part of the day where it didn't rain! Dave and Jude had organised a violinist to play in the church. She played beautifully. Jude then arrived in a VW Campervan. She looked stunning. Her Father gave her away. He looked so proud!

After the ceremony was over, we all headed back across the road to the Swettenham Arms. By now, it was pouring it down! Hayley and I did some couples shots and a very quick confetti shot. It was far too wet for everyone to stay outside for too long and the kids were frozen. So we went for plan B and got plenty of candid photographs of the guests enjoying a drink.

After the wedding breakfast and speeches, we went back to plan A and whipped the bride & groom outside in to the rain! Luckily for us, they were both up for a few rain shots. Personally, I think they look really good. What are your thoughts?

They had a fantastic live band for their evening celebrations and it was now time for cutting of the cake and their first dance as husband and wife.

This is where we left. my sat nav sent me the wrong way and we ended up stuck down some farm track and almost in the middle of a massive ford. But that is a whole other story.......

If you are getting married and looking for a wedding photographer, please drop me a message for my availability. I am Lancashire based wedding photographer, but I am happy to travel. Key dates are filling quickly.

Much love,

Jane x
