An engagement shoot in a fabulous meadow, Hoghton, Lancashire - Gina and Jack

I have known Jack for a little while now. A group of us were having lunch together and he mentioned he was getting married. He told us that he and Gina were getting married at Bashall Barn. My smile grew wider as Bashall Barn is one of my favourite wedding venues and is literally 15 minutes from my door step. At this time, he didn’t know I was a Lancashire wedding photographer - he soon did! I gave him a business card and said for him and Gina to take a look at my work. Jack was really happy as he could impress his beautiful fiancee by saying he had done some wedding research.

I met up with the loved up couple earlier this year at Bashall Barn to discuss their plans. By now, I had found out that they own a Bernese Mountain Dog called Loki! As an animal lover and a massive Marvel fan, this made me do a happy dance. Fingers crossed, he might be making an appearance at the wedding!

Gina & Jack

Anyway, I was already running a valentines competition to win an engagement shoot. Jack was one of the many people that entered it. My 5 year old daughter asked if she could help pick the winner. She carefully looked at the entries and stopped at Jack’s. She announced he should be the winner. When I asked her why she had chosen him, she said because he was the only boy that had entered and it was really nice of him to do it for his girlfriend. Awwww, how cute?

So last month, Gina, Jack, Loki and I met at Gina’s family home in Hoghton, Preston. Wow, just wow! It was perfect. There was a massive park right by it with a meadow and trees! I was so excited! We had an amazing time. Lots of laughs, wedding talk, Loki cuddles and some amazing photographs! I just know their winter wedding is going to be incredible.

Here are some of my favorite images from the shoot.

Ribble Valley, Lancashire Newborn Photographer - Meeting Marnie

Ribble Valley & Lancashire Wedding and Family Photographer.

Marnie Wright

Wow, Just wow!

I just love being a Lancashire newborn photographer! I say that a newborn session can be booked any time after a 20 week scan. I should say, I limit my newborn sessions so that I have a little bit of flexibility to change those dates should baby be early or late.

Anyway, on this occasion, Rosie contacted me just a week before her session. She has seen my work months ago and had been meaning to book in. She got side tracked, as you do. But luckily for her, I had some availability.

Marnie Wright

A week later, 9 day old Marnie came to visit me at my studio style setting in Langho. She brought along her Mummy and Daddy. They only live in Rishton, so just over the hill from me in the Ribble Valley. Marnie arrived sleeping. I could see that she looked tiny. She was just over 6lb when she was born. She had a quick top up of milk and she was ready to go. Because she arrived asleep, I was slightly concerned that I would upset her by getting her undressed and in a newborn wrap. She didn’t stir! That was pretty much her throughout the session. I used various wraps, faux furs and props before moving her on to my newborn posing beanbag. Not a peep out of her for practically the whole shoot. That being said, she did show me once or twice that although she is very small, she is also very mighty! Her legs and arms were super strong for such a little dot!

Marnie Wright

Jane is amazing at what she does. She is so talented. You can really tell she genuinely cares about making your photos amazing. I would recommend Jane to anyone. So much time and effort is put into the photos. Thanks sooo much. We had a lovely morning xxx
— Rosie White

I loved Marnie’s newborn session. She was a total sweetheart, I got lots of baby cuddles and her Mummy and Daddy were lovely to be around. They’ve already told me that Marnie will be coming back for her cake smash and splash session and I can’t wait!

Here are some more images from this lovely shoot.

Lancashire cake smash and splash session - Aria

Ribble Valley & Lancashire Wedding and Family Photographer.

_-2.jpg

I first met Aria when she was just a few days old. Her Mummy had been in contact with me whilst pregnant and booked a newborn session with me. Since then, I have seen her a couple of times; once for a Christmas photo session and then more recently, she came for a cake smash and splash session. This was to celebrate her first birthday.

I ordered a beautiful giant cupcake from Ebella, near Clitheroe, Lancashire and collected it the day before. I also used pink helium balloons, vintage bunting, pearls and a tutu. Who doesn’t love a tutu?

When Aria arrived, she was keen to get to the balloons! She didn’t need any settling in. She is a pro at this. She preferred to smash the cake with a wooden spatula rather than use her hands. That’s fine, anything goes.

_-19.jpg

She found it so amusing when she knocked the cake completely off its stand! At this point, she thought it would also be funny to come and climb on both me and her Mummy. Don’t forget, she was now covered in buttercream! This happens in most cake smash sessions in fairness. I often go to collect my own daughters from school covered in mess. Oh well, I am not bothered.

Aria was now done with eating icing and cake.So it was now time for the splash part of the session. The children tend to love this bit. But again, who doesn’t love a splash in the tub? She decided that the cake hadn’t satisfied her and tried to eat the rubber ducks!

_-46.jpg

I can’t wait to see Aria and her lovely Mummy again in the near future. We always have so much fun!

If your little one is about to have a special birthday and you fancy celebrating with a cake smash and splash session, drop me a message. I’d love to speak to you.

I am based in Langho, just outside Clitheroe.

A Summers Wedding At Cliviger And Holmes Mill, Clitheroe - Sherry & Simon

Ribble Valley & Lancashire Wedding and Family Photographer.

Sherrie & Simon (37).jpg

Wow, June seems like such a long time ago now! Where does time go? What a beautiful summer we had. I shot so many weddings of my own, along with second shooting for other amazing wedding photographers.

I second shot for Laura from Laura Duggleby Photography at the wedding of Sherry and Simon. It was quite funny as the week before, Laura had second shot for me at Simon’s cousins wedding, so we already knew a lot of the guests!

Sherrie & Simon (8).jpg

I briefly met up with Simon and his groomsmen at his house. We then went to meet some of the wedding guests at The Ram Inn, Cliviger. Great little pub! Simon was really relaxed and having a great time catching up with friends and family. I stole away the groom and his groomsmen (woman) briefly to capture some lovely images before we wandered over the road to St. John’s Church. Simon was eager to get in and get started!

Sherrie & Simon (11).jpg

The bridesmaids arrived, closely followed by the beautiful bride. Sherry’s wedding dress was absolutely amazing; blush pink and backless! She has family in America and chose it when she was over there visiting.

Once the bride and groom had become Mr & Mrs, we went outside for a few photographs before heading across to Holmes Mill, Clitheroe. I personally LOVE Holmes Mill. I think it’s not only an amazingly quirky wedding venue, but it’s also great for a family meal or a few drinks out.

Sherrie & Simon (22).jpg

The room looked fab. Sherry and Simon are fans of Star Wars. They had little Lego Star Wars figures throughout, including on the cake, in vases with fairy lights and even in the buttonholes. This impressed me. Not as much as if it was Marvel Lego figures, but you can’t have everything…. Massive Marvel fan over here! Anyway…. They also had a wheelbarrow full of beer, all with personalised labels.

Sherrie & Simon (33).jpg

Holmes Mill has some amazing backdrops for wedding photography, both inside and outside the venue. What I also love about it is, it is only a stones throw away from Clitheroe Castle. So in the evening, we made the most of being right by it and nipped over for some extra couples portraits.

We headed back in time for the cake cutting and the first dance before leaving the newlyweds to party with their friends and family.

An Engagement Shoot in the Lake District, Cumbria - Lou & Becky

Ribble Valley & Lancashire Wedding and Family Photographer.

Lou & Becky

At the end of 2017, Lou got in contact with me. She had seen on Facebook that I was a Lancashire wedding photographer and she was keen to tell me about her engagement to Becky. She told me how she had been planning to ask Becky to marry her, but at the same time, Becky was planning on asking her! We arranged to meet up and discuss over a coffee. We all know how much I love a coffee and a natter! The ladies had got engaged at Skelwith Bridge, Ambleside and had booked their wedding for 2019 at Salmesbury Hall, Preston. Without giving too many details away, their plans sound awesome!

I just love meeting up with couples, especially when they are as cute as this pair. We had pretty much sealed the deal when we said our goodbyes on the car park. As I was walking to my car, I glanced round at them and caught them having a cheeky little kiss. Awwwwww!

Lou & Becky

Lou and Becky had an engagement shoot included in their wedding package. So a couple of weeks ago, I met them at Chester’s By The River, Skelwith Bridge, Ambleside. This is where they were when the big question was popped! It was the perfect place for them and it was great for me as I meant I got to visit some family whilst I was up there (I am originally from Ulverston, Cumbria and most of my family are still up there). Becky started off a little nervous around the camera, but with good banter, she soon got into it.

Lou & Becky

It was a cold day and very damp under foot. But we didn’t care, we just cracked on with it. We all walked, talked and giggled whilst I shot some beautiful images of the couple. It was great to watch them interacting. You can clearly see how much they love each other.

I loved hearing about further plans they had made for their up coming wedding day and I really can’t wait to join them as their wedding photographer. 1 year to go!

Celebrating Turning 1 In Style - Ribble Valley Smash & Splash Session

Ribble Valley & Lancashire Wedding and Family Photographer.

Isabelle Burns

Let me start by saying, I totally love being a Lancashire based newborn, family and wedding photographer. Especially when I come across families like this!

Last year, I met Isabelle and her family when they came for a newborn session. They returned last weekend for a cake smash and splash session. I love having children return for another shoot. It’s amazing to see how much they have grown and see their personality develop.

Isabelle brought along her Mummy, Daddy and big sister. Isabelle was one of the rare children that didn’t dive straight into the cake! She was looking at us as if we were all mental (maybe we are)! Anyway, Melissa and Paul (Mummy & Daddy) hid some crisps in the back of the cake. I have used this method before and it always works. Whilst Isabelle was tucking into the crisps, her big sister, Olivia was nibbling on the icing. In fairness, I don’t blame her. I’d have done the same if I could have got away with it!

Isabelle Burns

Isabelle kept playing peekaboo with us all throughout the shoot. She had me in stitches. Such a cutie!

Isabelle Burns

It was now time for the splash part of the cake smash session. I’d been saying all the way through the shoot how this is always the bit that children enjoyed the most. Isabelle had clearly been listening in and wanted to prove me wrong. She didn’t want to get in the tub. Even rubber ducks and bubbles couldn’t persuade her. It didn’t matter. Having children of my own and working with them for a few years has taught me that all children are different. So, we put a different tutu on her and gave her a pearl necklace to play with. She loved being a big girl and taking it on and off.

This family is truly awesome and I can’t wait to see them again in the future.

Much love,

Autumnal wedding at Artisan Ribble Valley - Gill & Darren

Ribble Valley & Lancashire Wedding and Family Photographer.

Gill & Darren

Earlier this year, I met Gill & Darren at Artisan Ribble Valley for their wedding consultation. It was the perfect place to meet up. Not only is it in between my house in Langho and theirs in Clitheroe, it is also the place they had booked to get married. They told me how they had known each other for many years, but had only recently got together. They bumped into each other at the MOD weekender in Clitheroe back in 2017. They hit it off and the rest is history! We discussed their plans so far. They only wanted a small wedding, so they were only inviting 20 guests. Gill was having her wedding dress hand made by Liz at Orchid Designs in Clitheroe.

Like them, we got on well from the word go and I was booked.

Gill & Darren

Flash forward to October. It was the day of the wedding and it wasn’t raining - yay!

I met Darren at Artisan Ribble Valley and got some shots of the venue and details before the wedding guests arrived. Darren was nervous, but very excited.

Guests were now arriving and it was almost time to get going.

Gill & Darren

Gill had now arrived. Eeeeek! I went out greet her. She looked absolutely amazing! She was also very nervous, but eager to get going.

Her nephew had been given the honour of giving the beautiful bride away. Darren’s face lit up when he saw enter the room. They were both grinning from ear to ear.

The ceremony was lovely. Gill and Darren couldn’t take their eyes off each other. Both of their Mums had tears in their eyes (as did I at one point).

Gill & Darren

The bride and groom were now husband and wife!

They were greeted with a drink by the hotel staff. Their friends and family were keen to congratulate the happy couple. Oh, there were now 40 guests instead of the original 20 as planned. These things happen….

I whisked them outside for couples portraits. My favourite time of the day! They get to have a breather and I get to be creative. Win, win! There are some great areas at Artisan Ribble Valley for portraits. One being the wooden gazebo/band stand in the wooded area. I made a bee line for it.

Gill & Darren

Gill and Darren then enjoyed having a drink and chatting with their friends and family before their wedding breakfast. I left them shortly after speeches and the cake cutting.

Here is what Gill and Darren had to say about their experience of me working as their wedding photographer;

Hi Jane. Received our photos today. They’re absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much, we’re thrilled with them. We couldn’t have asked for anything better.... We had a lovely day and we’re so glad you were a big part of it. Thanks again 😘 Love Gill and Darren xx

Meeting Ted on his 1st birthday - Cake Smash & Splash Session

Ribble Valley & Lancashire Wedding and Family Photographer.

Ted Barnes

What a morning; what a lovely morning! Ted came to see me on his 1st birthday for a cake smash and splash session. His family had come from Lytham St Annes to my studio setup in Langho, Lancashire.

Ted arrived with a bit of a frown on his face. I thought he was going to make me work hard for smiles. I was wrong! Literally a minute or so in to his session, his smile came out.

I started by taking some photographs of him whilst he was clean. I used a little bed with a faux fur rug on it for him to sit on. I often use this bed in newborn sessions too. It is nice for parents to be able to compare the size of their baby on it as a newborn and as a 1 year old.

Ted Barnes

It was now time to get messy! Ted’s parents had brought their own cake. It was a bit too big to go on my lovely little cake stand. Ted wasn’t bothered about that though. He was keen to get stuck in. A little too keen. He was trying to get at the cake before I’d even got it out of the box properly! I do love an eager child. I dressed him in a blue nappy cover that has little police cars on. It was held up by red braces. I didn’t use the matching hat today, but I did use matching bunting. Ted loved my yellow novelty glasses.

Ted Barnes

Cake was now everywhere, including all over my feet. I hadn’t stood in any of it, Ted had massaged some into them. I wasn’t bothered, it was lovely to see him enjoying himself so much. It was now time for a clean down in my little tub. This is another prop that I often use in my newborn sessions. Again, great to compare your little newborn to your massive 1 year old. At first, Ted wasn’t convinced. So I gave him some rubber ducks. His eyes lit up and he was well away. This is where the his biggest smiles came out. He was loving splashing around in the tub.

Ted really nailed his smash and splash session. He settled in to it straight away and knew exactly what to do.

Below are some of my favourite images from this session, enjoy!

A very wet family photo shoot at Towneley Hall, Burnley, Lancashire

Ribble Valley & Lancashire Wedding and Family Photographer.

A couple of months ago, I ran an offer on Facebook. It was when the World Cup was on. England were doing well and were in the quarter final. So I offered all families that booked that month 25% off their photo shoot. I also said I would pick one lucky family to win a free shoot.

That promotion went really well. I got various bookings from it and met lots of fantastic new people. It went really well for Adele who was my chosen winner for the free photo shoot!

Adele and I made 3 bookings before we actually met. The weather was so bad, considering we were in August at the time. Anyway, on the morning of the third booking, guess what? It was raining, again! We decided to go for it anyway and hope that the rain would pass.

So I met Adele and her beautiful family at Towneley Hall in Burnley. It is such a fantastic place with loads of paths to explore with kiddies. We were wrong about the rain passing, but it was only drizzling. We went for it. I had literally taken about 3 photographs before the heavens opened. Again, we kidded ourselves and said it wouldn't last. It did! We ducked in and out of various shelters to avoid the worst of it, but it wasn't for stopping. We carried on regardless. Do you know what, I am so glad we did.

Adele

Here is what Adele had to say about her experience.

I won a competition for a free family shoot with Daisy Chain Photography. We had a lovely outdoor shoot in Lancashire and we were so pleased with the relaxed atmosphere and how quickly we received the images! The quality of the images are amazing! My partner and I are currently deciding which ones are our favourite to get printed on to canvases! We could choose them all! Highly recommended!

Jesse turns 1 and celebrates with a cake smash - Ribble Valley family photographer

Ribble Valley & Lancashire Wedding and Newborn Photographer.

Jesse Smith Cake Smash

As you may know, as well as being a Ribble Valley based wedding photographer, I am also a newborn and family photographer.

Last Christmas, I met Jesse and his lovely family when they came for a Christmas photo shoot. I was delighted when they made contact and asked if I would I'd do a cake smash session to celebrate Jesse turning one.

I ordered a fantastic giant cupcake from Ebella who are based in Bashall Barn, near Clitheroe. I have worked with the lovely ladies from there before and knew that it would be a fabulous cake (they didn't disappoint!). I also ordered some blue helium balloons from Party People in Clitheroe. I knew they'd go perfectly with my new blue bunting and accessories.

The day of the cake smash arrived. I had set up on my large vinyl backdrop as I knew that things were about to get messy! Jesse and his family arrived. Wow, he had massively grown since I last saw him. His Mummy and Daddy had bought him a lovely little Peter Rabbit outfit. Unfortunately, he wasn't overly keen on wearing it. So I brought the cake out to distract him. Turns out he wasn't up for that either and pushed it over straight away! Like they say, never work with kids or animals! Luckily, I love a challenge and we managed to get him interested for the shots I wanted. Next, I brought out my little tub that I use for a babies to have a bath in. I like to give a little more with my cake smash sessions and make them in to a smash and splash session. Well, Jesse totally loved being in that! In fact, I think he would have stayed in there all day. This is when Jesse's biggest, most beautiful smiles came out. I was so pleased to see them.

If you're about to have a special birthday in your family, why not book a smash and splash session with me. Like I say, it does get messy, but who doesn't love a bit of chaos from time to time? Especially when it's not in your own house and you don't have to clear up!

A gorgeous engagement shoot at Beacon Fell, Lancashire - Francesca & Darren

Ribble Valley & Lancashire Wedding and Newborn Photographer.

Francesc & Darren

Back in February, I ran a competition to win a free engagement shoot / pre wedding shoot. All the couples had to do was tell me their engagement story.  I had so many lovely couples apply for it. It was fantastic to read all their stories.

Francesca and Darren were my lucky winners. They got engaged last September at Grasmere in the Lake District.  They were so excited when I told them that they had won. I asked the couple where they would like to meet up for the shoot. They said they'd like to meet at Beacon Fell, Goosnargh as that it one of their favourite places to go.  I live in Langho, near Clitheroe and they live near Blackpool. So this was the perfect half way point. As well as being half way, it is totally beautiful and made the perfect backdrop for some romantic photographs.

So, we met up last Sunday. The weather was perfect! Sunny, but not too bright and more importantly, no rain! We met on the main car park and began our walk. We chatted and got on straight away. It was lovely. I could instantly see how comfortable Francesca and Darren are with each other and I knew this was going to be a good photo shoot. They told me all about their hobbies and their wedding plans so far. I can't say too much as I don't know what they have told their friends and family. All I will say is, they are getting married at Mitton Hall, near Whalley in April 2020 and it sounds amazing!

Francesc & Darren

Anyway, we walked and talked whilst I took some relaxed, natural photographs of them. They were so easy to work with. They did find it hilarious when I was hiding in the bushes taking sneaky photos. Yes, I did look some kind of stalker. I'm not, I promise. Darren ended up wearing Francesca's lipstick through all the smooching they were doing. We had a laugh about that too.

We finished the shoot with a coffee in the cafe to warm up. I can't say how great this shoot was. We literally met that day and it felt like we had been friends for ages.

Here is what the happy couple had to say;

We met Jane for an engagement shoot and she was brilliant! Really friendly, professional and had some great ideas for shots. The images were amazing, loved them all and really great quality. Would definitely use Daisy Chain Photography again Xx
— Francesca & Darren

An engagement shoot / pre wedding shoot is a great chance to work with a photographer before you book them for your official wedding photographer. It gives you chance to get to know each other and see if you are comfortable with how they work. Wedding photography is an important part of your special day, so it is important to get it right.

I am a Lancashire wedding photographer, but happy to travel to other areas. Drop me a message if you would like further information.

Trashing Ella's wedding dress - Clitheroe, Lancashire

Ribble Valley & Lancashire Wedding and Newborn Photographer.

Trash the dress

You may already know that I am a Ribble Valley and Lancashire wedding photographer and have recently being doing a lot of work with Kate from Kate's Bridal Room. I helped her with her curvy bridal catwalk at Towneley Hall and then at Bashall Barn for a styled shoot for a new range of wedding dresses.

Whilst I was at her lovely little bridal shop in Clitheroe to discuss these shoots (and have a coffee), she asked me if I wanted to do a trash the dress shoot with her. She had a sample dress with a defect, so she couldn't sell it in the shop. I had wanted to do a trash the dress photo shoot for a while, so I was more than happy to put this dress to good use! We were both so excited.

Kate ordered some powder paint and I ordered some smoke grenades straight away. Kate is friends with Ella from Escape Hair Salon by Alison Burns and Ella Burns. She thought that Ella would be the perfect person for the job as our model. She showed me a photograph of her. Do you know what? She was right! I could see straight away how amazing she was going to look. Model sorted, now just to find the perfect location..... I have a friend who is a bit of a property developer. My husband had recently told me that Rob had bought an old MOT garage in Clitheroe and was making it in to flats. So I sent him a quick text to see if he would mind us using it. Luckily for us, he was more than happy with this. Although he was slightly worried that the bottom of the dress would get messed up in all the dust and dirt. When I explained that we would be launching neon paint at Ella, that worry soon went away!

Trash the dress

The day of the shoot arrived (woohoo)! It was sunny, but freezing! Kate, Rob and I arrived first. Rob let us in and made a quick dart for it. I don't blame him. I'd have roped him into a job. Ella and Alison arrived shortly after. Ella looked amazing! She had done her own hair and makeup (she is a hair and makeup artist). Kate helped her get into the wedding dress and we were ready to go. Kate and Alison were on paint throwing duties. It was amazing. I got so excited with every image I shot. The ladies were throwing the paint into the air so it came down on Ella. Well, that was the idea..... Alison threw a handful straight in Ella's face! Whoops! Good job she is her Mum! We then let the first grenade off in the building. It looked amazing (at first), but it soon filled the room up and none of us could see. At this point, I'll tell you that I am asthmatic and have been struggling with it recently. As you can imagine, dust, paint and smoke grenades are not a good combo for asthma. Again, whoops! I wasn't bothered though as the images looked amazing (if I do say so myself). Anyway, in the interest of us all being able to breathe, we decided to let the next one off outdoors. There was a pile of stone up against a wall, with trees covered in ivy just behind. Perfect! Again, I was behaving like a giddy kipper. At this point, a couple of passersby came to watch what we were doing. It's not everyday you see a beautiful woman in a wedding dress, covered in paint, sat casually on a wall with blue smoke all around them!

Trash the dress

Trash the dress is so popular nowadays. It's an excuse to wear your wedding dress again and do something fun. If it is something you are interested in, drop me a message and I'd be happy to help.

Samantha & Liam's pre wedding shoot - Fletcher Park Botanical Garden, Didsbury, Manchester.

Ribble Valley & Lancashire Wedding and Newborn Photographer.

Samantha & Liam

A couple of months ago, Samantha made contact with me in regards to booking me as hers and Liam's wedding photographer. They are getting married at the Royal Victoria Holiday Inn, Sheffield this coming May. Within their deal, the got a pre wedding shoot / engagement shoot included. Samantha and Liam live in Sheffield and I live in the Ribble Valley, so we decided to meet somewhere in between. We had discussed various locations, but Fletcher Moss Botanical Gardens was one of our favourites, so we went with that option.

Myself and Samantha were in contact a lot on Saturday evening as the snow had decided to come down, again. I'm sure it is meant to be spring now?! Samantha had seen another pre wedding session I did a few weeks ago and really liked the white backdrop, so we thought we'd carry on as planned.

Sunday morning arrived. I woke up to a message off Samantha saying there was loads of snow in Sheffield and she thought she was going to have to rearrange! The was only an inch or so at my house in the Ribble Valley. So I spoke to a friend who was in the Didsbury area, there wasn't much snow there either. So we decided to discuss again at lunch time.

They managed to get their car off their street. Hooray! Now we were on our way. Fantastic!

I got there before Liam and Samantha as they had got stuck in traffic due to an over turned snow plough! I went for a quick coke and a warmup in The Didsbury Pub, before going for a walk round the park to get some ideas.

The happy couple arrived and we were ready to go. It was awesome to finally meet them as all our communication had been done via Facebook messenger and emails. I'd been with them for a couple of minutes and it felt like I had known them forever. We walked and talked the whole way round, stopping to take some relaxed and natural photographs as we did so.

Liam and Samantha made my job so easy. They are so comfortable with each other. They just fell naturally into beautiful poses. I am so excited to be apart of their amazing wedding day. It sounds fantastic. But i have to keep all the details of that to myself, for now.....

I am a Lancashire wedding photographer, but as you can see, I am happy to travel further (if asked nicely).

Here are some of my favourite photographs from the day.

A 'spring' engagement shoot with Rowan and Alex - Clitheroe Castle, Lancashire

Ribble Valley & Lancashire Wedding and Newborn Photographer.

Rowan, Alex & Simon

This weekend, I have done my first engagement session for spring 2018. I say spring, it was -2 and the ground was covered in snow!

Anyway, Rowan, Alex, Simon the boxer dog and I got wrapped up and met at Clitheroe Castle. They had traveled to me from Burscough (calling off at Finch Bakery in Great Harwood on their way, even bringing my kiddies a sweetie cake!). Simon was keen to set off and explore as he had never been to Clitheroe before. Rowan and Alex were worried that he wouldn't behave for photographs. Let me tell you, that boy knew just how to work the camera! Treat bribery did play a small part, I am sure. All 3 of them soon settled in to it and were all naturals in front of the camera. We walked (and talked) all the way round the grounds, capturing some natural images as we did so. We were there for around an hour. It was a lovely, relaxed, but cold morning. I really enjoyed spending time with them all. I even got some kisses from Simon.

Here is what Rowan had to say about their shoot with me;

Thank you for our lovely photos that you did with our boxer dog, Simon! We can’t wait to get some put up around our house. We are even more excited to have our wedding photos done with you in 6 months! I would highly recommend your services. Thanks again! Xxx
— Rowan

As you can see from the lovely review by Rowan, I am also their wedding photographer this coming September. I can't wait! It is going to be a fabulous event. I just hope it is a little warmer!

I currently have an offer on - If you book me for a full days wedding photography, I will include a complimentary engagement shoot. If you are interested, please hurry, I am only offering this to 5 lucky couples. 2 places have already been taken!

Below are a selection of images from Rowan, Alex and Simon's session. Aren't they a gorgeous little family?

A winter wedding at the Shireburn Arms. Hurst Green. Ribble Valley - Scott & Sally

Ribble Valley and Lancashire Wedding and Newborn Photographer.

Sally & Scott

Back in December, I shot my first Christmas wedding when I was second shooting for my good friend, Laura Duggleby Photography. It was the wedding of Sally and Scott and was held at The Shireburn Arms, Hurst Green, Clitheroe.

Let me start by saying what a totally amazing day it was from start to finish. Myself and Laura were in contact from first thing in the morning as it had been snowing! Luckily for us, it didn't stick to the roads. We made sure we were at The Shireburn Arms extra early! Sally was pleased to see we had made it and she was getting her hair done whilst her bridesmaids were getting their makeup done.

Armed with cameras, we were ready to go. Grabbing a few shots of the ladies getting ready, before going to scope out the venue for perfect places for the couples portraits. We needed to have a backup plan due to the weather. Plus, the ceremony wasn't until 3pm, so light was against us. En route, shots of the venue were taken, including all the little details Scott and Sally had put around. I LOVE details! Time to finish off bridal preparation. Sally was now having her makeup done and my word, she was looking amazing! The wedding flowers had now arrived and she was ecstatic to see them. Her bridesmaids now helped her in to her wedding dress. It looked perfect on her. Shortly after she had been strapped firmly in to her dress, her parents came to have a peep at her. Sally's Father looked so proud!

Everyone was now ready to go down stairs for the big event! Laura was positioned at the front and I was to the rear (it is a good idea to have two photographers at a wedding as you get different angles and more coverage). Sally and the gang were ready to go. Her Father walked her down the isle. He looked like the Cheshire Cat! His smile was beaming. Scott's smile was just as wide when he clapped eyes on his beautiful bride.

Once the ceremony was finished, we mingled with the guests and took lots of relaxed, informal photographs before moving on to do the couples shots with just the bride and groom. Now it was time for the wedding breakfast and speeches. Sally's parents were amazing to observe throughout that; they laughed and they laughed, hard!

Whilst the room was being set up for the evening reception, we whisked Scott and Sally outside for a couple of night shots. We returned to the evening reception and the bride and groom cut their beautiful cake before having their first dance as husband and wife.

We departed just after 9pm and they continued their celebrations.

A totally gorgeous Cheshire wedding - Dave and Jude

Ribble Valley and Lancashire Wedding and Newborn Photographer.

Jude & Dave

At the back end of November 2017 (2017! Is that last year already?!), Hayley from Hayley Blackledge Photography asked me if I could second shoot for her at a totally gorgeous wedding at Swettenham, Congleton, Cheshire. I was keen to get on board. I made a quick phone call to my Mum in Cumbria to see if she was able to come to to watch the kiddies and I was able to confirm the details with Hayley.

The weekend came and I made my was down to Cheshire. Hayley was with the bride, Jude for bridal preperation. So I met the men at The Swettenham Arms. This is where the wedding reception was going to be. But also where the guests met as St. Peter's Church was just across the car park! There, I was able to capture a few of the groom, Dave and his friends. I was also able to get some of their gorgeous son. I am a massive fan of children at weddings. They are amazing to watch.

From there, we made our way across to the church. I think this was the only part of the day where it didn't rain! Dave and Jude had organised a violinist to play in the church. She played beautifully. Jude then arrived in a VW Campervan. She looked stunning. Her Father gave her away. He looked so proud!

After the ceremony was over, we all headed back across the road to the Swettenham Arms. By now, it was pouring it down! Hayley and I did some couples shots and a very quick confetti shot. It was far too wet for everyone to stay outside for too long and the kids were frozen. So we went for plan B and got plenty of candid photographs of the guests enjoying a drink.

After the wedding breakfast and speeches, we went back to plan A and whipped the bride & groom outside in to the rain! Luckily for us, they were both up for a few rain shots. Personally, I think they look really good. What are your thoughts?

They had a fantastic live band for their evening celebrations and it was now time for cutting of the cake and their first dance as husband and wife.

This is where we left. my sat nav sent me the wrong way and we ended up stuck down some farm track and almost in the middle of a massive ford. But that is a whole other story.......

If you are getting married and looking for a wedding photographer, please drop me a message for my availability. I am Lancashire based wedding photographer, but I am happy to travel. Key dates are filling quickly.

Best of 2017 - Highlights from some of my newborn and family sessions - Clitheroe, Lancashire

Wow! What a year 2017 has been. As some of you will know, I am now a Ribble Valley based, Lancashire wedding and newborn photographer. I have always had a keen interest in photography, but never had the guts to to do anything about it. At the back end of 2016, I was having a coffee with a very close friend of mine. She is actually the first friend that I made when I moved from Cumbria down to Lancashire back in 2003. She said she also was wanting to set up a photography business. We knocked out a few ideas and came to the conclusion that we could do it! That evening, I discussed it with my husband. He was ridiculously supportive of it and told me to crack on with it. The day after, I bought myself a new DSLR and did a few model calls to get me started. I went on a training course with my friend, bought a few newborn props and I was ready to go.

I spent January and February doing photo shoots for minimal charge, just to get my portfolio going. I then booked myself on a marketing mentoring session with an awesome local photographer, she has now become one of my friends. She added me into a networking group of photographers. They have all been so amazingly helpful and supportive. Within that group, I met another local and fantastic photographer and booked on her newborn posing workshop. It was an awesome day and I learnt loads. She has now also become a friend of mine. From there, my business has just grown and grown!

Anyway, you know I mentioned buying a DSLR the day after I decided to set up my own business? Well, I outgrew that one pretty quickly and now have two awesome ones instead. My 4 year old daughter keeps telling me she wants to be a newborn photographer too. I might set her off with my original one in a few years. She can be my apprentice!

This last year, I have spent the majority of the year focusing on newborns, children, families and pets. I am going to continue with those moving on in to 2019, However, towards the back end of 2017, I started to focus on weddings. The group I mentioned above have really helped with that. I'll speak more about that in my Best of 2017 - weddings blog.

This is the short version of my story so far...

Below are some of my favourite images from the last 12 months. If you would like to discuss further or book a shoot, please contact me.

Happy New Year!

A wedding fit for a princess - Bashall Barn, Clitheroe, Lancashire - Reece & Rachael

Ribble Valley and Lancashire Wedding, Newborn and Family Photographer.

Reece & Rachael

Reece and Rachael got married a few weeks back, in November. It was a cold, but amazing day!

I was working along side Kathryn Jefferson from Delicious Photography. Kathryn started off as my mentor for newborn photography and then for wedding photography. She has now become a good friend.

Anyway, myself and Kathryn joined Rachael and her two bridesmaids at The Dunkenhalgh Hotel and Spa, Clayton-le-Moors, Blackburn. This is where they got ready for the big day. They all had their hair and makeup professionally done and were all wearing beautiful, matching dressing gowns. I love to photograph bridal preparation, it really gets you in the mood for the exciting day ahead. It is fabulous to get involved in the girly conversation, have a bit of a laugh and capture some amazing images at the same time. Rachael had a few visitors to her room; her parents and her two sons.

From there, they all made their way to St Wulstan's Church, Great Harwood. They traveled in a VW Camper Van. This is where she joined Reece and they soon became Mr & Mrs. Shortly after the wedding ceremony was over, I quickly made my way to Bashall Barn, Clitheroe. I arrived a good 20-30 minutes before the bride and groom and was able to capture some of the delicate details of the venue. After all, couples spend ages picking out details and putting personal touches on their day. It would be a shame to miss them out. All the details really complimented Rachael's dress. It really was a venue fit for a princess.

Reece and Rachael had now arrived. We spent about 30 minutes doing some beautiful couples portraits before a handful of family ones. It was now time to get warm again before the wedding breakfast and speeches! Now, the bride and groom were ready to party with their friends and family.

It really was a fantastic day from start to finish. I have attached my favourite images from the day. Enjoy.

If you are looking for a wedding photographer for 2018, my prices currently start at just £500 for half day and £700 for a full day. Get in touch to find out more.
